Healthy Families Children’s Coverage

Obtaining health coverage for your children is imperative. No child should go untreated because the parents cannot afford to take him or her to visit a doctor. While many places of employment offer family insurance plans to their employees, a number of them do not. Not only that, but parents who are in between jobs may not have insurance coverage for their families, either.

If your household income is low enough, you may qualify for free Medi-Cal coverage. Healthy Families is a government-sponsored program that provides health, dental, and vision coverage to uninsured children and teens under the age of 19. In order to qualify, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Be ineligible for no-cost Medi-Cal
• Live in a family with a household income that falls within the Health Families income brackets (variable, depending on the age and number of children)
• Not have received insurance from an employer within the past 3 months
• Meet the immigration and citizenship requirements
• Be 18 years of age or younger
