The Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan has been recently opened for enrollment on a state-by-state basis. The state of California is now operating a PCIP program to serve citizens of California who have had a difficult time receiving adequate insurance at a reasonable price.

Eligibility for PCIP
Since the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan started enrollment in California, more than 500 people have already begun receiving the insurance coverage they need. This program helps to make insurance coverage a reality for more and more people who have struggled to get adequate coverage in the past.
The following are some of the eligibility requirements for PCIP coverage:
- You must be nationalized or be a citizen of the United States
- You must have had an issue with receiving insurance in the past because of a pre-existing condition
- You must have been uninsured for at least six months prior to your application
