What Is A Point of Service Plan?
As an employer or as a consumer, it is important to consider all of your insurance needs and options. Health insurance plans can have a number of different structures. Often those structures are restrictive, placing limitations on who a person can receive health coverage from. One health insurance structure that may be beneficial to consumers is known as a point of service plan.
If you are business owner seeking quality coverage for you and your employees or an individual looking for health insurance for you and your family, you need the assistance of a knowledgeable insurance agent who can walk you through the available insurance options. Understanding Point of Service Plans
Point of service plans are similar to many HMO and PPO insurance plans because they include coverage for services provided by doctors within the insurance provider’s network. But POS plans differ from HMOs and PPOs in that they allow patients to go outside of the network of physicians to receive care. Patients are not limited to only the doctors included in the network approved by the health insurance provider. This flexibility can be very beneficial in the following circumstances:
- If a person travels often
- If a person has received specialized care from a doctor outside of the network in the past
- If a person is able to receive discounted services outside of the network of doctors
If individuals choose to seek coverage outside of the network, they may be responsible for a greater percentage of the bill than if they received service from an in-network physician.
